Thanks Sergei. I spoke to a couple of geneticists and it seems that my 'Distribution Modification' idea is new and useful. I was goaded into writing a detailed explanation, which I have posted on sci.bio.evolution. My further suggestions based on Distribution Modification describe how a co-selected allele can evolve to an altruistic phenotype that would be maladaptive at individual selection if that phenotype was due to only a singly-selected allele, and I don't think this can have been done before if Distribution Modification hasn't been done before.
But I'll try your idea of searching a research article database next week. If anyone can suggest some addresses I would appreciate them.
