Dear Pierre,
when a concept spreads through the scientific community, it becomes a sort of thoughtless refrain that is repeated again and again, owing to sociological more than to scientific reasons. I'd know how many of the authors who "propose that heredity is explained by the transmission of the genetic program" are troubled about giving a clear definition of GP.
For what concerns the disciplinar background of fans and fighters about GP, I think it is difficult to trace sharp distinctions among them. The problem I see is that some supporters of this concept accuse (sometimes rightly) any other conceptual position of obscurantism, mysterious charm and antiscientific thought; so that, a strongly rigorous way of speaking about GP must be observed.
