Panel 3D. Expansion of the model to two dimensions, represented by trait 1 and trait 2. This is the "top view" of the 3D graph, where the hight of the surface (recognizer population density) is also indicated by the color (bar on the right provides the scale). This panel shows dynamics of the model in which two independent traits of signals are considered. Population follows the same dynamics as does the single-trait model: it starts from a single recognizer (in the center), then grows, and subsequently splits into a coral-reef-like ring structure, due to degeneracy of competition for signals. Notice that the "rings' is not homogeneous either - there is degenerate competition also occuring within the ring.
